This Saturday, November 22,at 6 PM  ComingOutCinema will feature a movie by a German director, R. W. Fassbinder, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (Die bitteren Tranen der Petra von Kant) Germany, 1972.

This time, we would like to touch upon the issue of internalized homophobia (non-acceptance of own sexuality) and discuss this issue after the feature of this remarkable movie.

The first movie of Rainier Werner Fassbinder, in which the director brilliantly employes his passion to baroque, abundant and colorful fireworks of a form, decorating a rather simple plot of a typical drama of solitude and alienation.

Petra von Kant - a successful fashion designer, a bitter self-sufficient woman. Her maid and secretary, Marlene is a subject of endless criticism from her boss. All of a sudden, a young beautiful Karin enters Petra’s life, and that radically changes the traditional way of life. Karin gradually overmasters Petra, putting her in a totally new reference frame.

СFassbinder’s favorite actress Hanna Schigula has acted in this movie one of the best roles, one which brought her to a new professional level. The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant is an acclaimed classic of Fassbinder as a director and the german cinematography in general.
