One of the programs on the 100tv channel in Saint-Petersburg was on the following topic “Homosexuality – a democracy triumph or a national security threat?” Experts were invited to the studio to discuss a statement of Andrey Kuraev, a deacon, who said that “homosexuality was a crime against childhood”.

One of the experts, doctor Knyazkin, became indignant from such openness! He said that during the last 10-20 years the number of homosexuals in the world doubled, however, he didn’t think out that this growth could be caused by the fact that in the recent time a lot of “closed” gays and lesbians have come out and the number of homosexual people in the world has always been quite the same.

It’s highly erroneously to compare homosexuality with zoophile, necrophilia and drug addiction, as it did Yury Sokolov, another expert. He didn’t take into account that according to the International Illnesses Classification, homosexuality is not an illness.

He stated that “historically, the homosexual culture rise was connected with a civilization crisis.” “But I can contradict me” – he added – “Tchaikovsky was a homosexual. Well, there are people, who had chromosomes anomalous grown together”. These are “normal homosexuals” on his opinion, unlike those, who were pulled into sexual minorities by society and culture.

According to a bit different classification of homosexuals by Knyazkin, the first group consists of “inner homosexuals”. “They make heterosexual families, bring up children, some of them pray and go to church and even become priests so as to be washed off”. The second group includes those, who do not hide their orientation and even can earn with the help of their propensity. (Such as Russian pop singer Boris Moiseev). The third group (the most “lowdown” homosexuals) consists of people, who “betray the interests of the homosexuals, they drag other people on the street flash mobs so as policemen would catch all of them, put their names down in the lists and those people could never be washed off anymore”.

It was unclear, from what should homosexuals always wash themselves off. Maybe, because homophobe citizens in every possible way try to underscore that their biases are defective?
One more “expert”, a political psychology department associate professor from Saint Petersburg State University, Alexandr Konfisachor thinks that homosexuals reckon themselves among “chosen ones”, they are people, who think that they understand something that others do not. Maybe we’ve played too much with a “freedom” idea – rhetorically questioned he. And he added that “every freedom should be limited by restrictions”.

It should be stated that the topic was quite odious given by the anchors. They found somewhere information that the number of “born homosexuals” is insignificantly low comparing with those who have propensity for homosexuality and consequently, are subjected to propaganda of homosexuality. I don’t know how somebody can become a homosexual because of the propaganda.

“Perhaps, homosexuality is not a humankind illness, but a society illness!” – pathetically concluded anchors the talk show. “It’s a virus of self-destruction such as drug addiction, alcoholism, AIDS, fertility descent and the growth of the crimes against children”.

Much more qualified was other point of view expert opinion – Valery Sozaev (Saint-Petersburg LGBT organization “Coming Out” director) and Olga Lipovskaya (a famous writer and a feminist), represented the other side.

Lipovskaya particularly said that “There were historical times, when no God, who is appealed nowadays when mentioning the sinfulness of the same sex love, existed and these relationships subsisted. There are cultures, in which the love between two men was considered to be more devotional than love between a man and a woman, like, in Ancient Greece”.

The question “Do you think that homosexuality is a crime against childhood”, Olga Lipovskaya considered to be a stupid one and underscored that the crime against childhood, according to the law, was pedophilia. Valery Sozaev reminded that there are 8 countries in our world, where homosexual relationships are still punished by a death penalty, however, heterosexuals have never been killed for intimate relations. Hence is discrimination by sexual orientation.

He thinks that LGBT people should strive for the rights as follows: a title to security (for example, to walk in safety along the streets), a title to a legal investigation in police and trial and also titles to marriage and children upbringing.

I remind that there is no such an illness as homosexuality in the International Illnesses Classification. In sexology there is no such a conception as “right and wrong orientation”. Orientation can be different – heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual. As well as tolerance – it can either exist in society or not. And hence, the statement of A. Konfisachor “to make strict limits for it” sounds illogical.

I think that such TV shows convince us in only one thing – gays and lesbians are on the right way, striving for their civil rights. And there is no national security threat in this. On contrary, it’s a motion to humanistic and tolerant society.
