“Rainbow Letter” Action

[lang ru]АКЦИЯ «РАДУЖНОЕ ПИСЬМО»[/lang ru][lang en]Rainbow Letter Action[/lang en]
We invite all the inhabitants of Saint Petersburg to come to a series of single pickets which will be the conclusion of the Week against Homophobia campaign.

The picket will take place on April 11, 2010, from 14.00 to 16.00 on Malaya Sadovaya street.

Together we can clearly declare our stand: the unacceptability of homophobia, of insults to human dignity and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

We expect support from EVERYONE who is not indifferent to the position of various social groups in the society and who understands that homophobia hurts everyone and concerns everyone.

Our slogans:

  • We are against homophobia! Homophobia breeds violence! We are against violence!
  • We are against exclusion!
  • Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people are an integral part of the whole society!
  • We want our voice to be heard!

We prepared letters addressed to the authorities. We will send them to three Saint Petersburg  governmental bodies: the Regional Internal Affairs Directorate, the Committee for Social Problems and the Committee for Culture.

We want to find out what measures the municipal government plans to take to prevent violence and protect the human dignity of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people.

After the solitary pickets we will go to the Central Post Office and send several hundreds of rainbow letters.

If YOU want to join us,

COME! TAKE YOUR OWN RAINBOW LETTER FROM THE PICKETER

AND SEND IT!

You can come wearing rainbow symbols on your clothes as a protest against the discrimination of LGBT people.

The LGBT organization Coming Out was refused permission for a mass picket by the municipal authorities. HOWEVER, not venturing outside of the limits of law, we will have a series of SINGLE pickets which doesn’t require permission/coordination with the authorities. The organizers will take all the necessary measures to provide for the safety of the picket participants.
