“Disclosure” of the festival “Side-by-Side”

“Side-by-Side” festival invites you on 29th of May at 8 p.m. to a press-club “Zelenaya Lampa” (subway station “Chernyshevskaya”, Gagarinskaya street, 3) to watch a German film “Unveiled” by Angelina Maccarone (2005).

This film tells us about a tragic fate of Fariba Tabrizi, which leaves Iran for Germany because of the death threatening. “Unveiled” got some prestigious movie awards.

On Summer 2008 while being in the USA, I decided to set up contacts with American LGBT-organizations on behalf of newly formed Saint-Petersburg LGBT-organization “Coming Out”. Being aware of American mentality and community, I had a dim suspicion that they could be rather interested in Russia.

I sent 20 letters which included brief description of “Coming Out” and hope for collaboration to different organizations.

Long-expected moment came!

The jury of the LGBT-film festival “Side-by-Side and travel agency “PrideWorld” have chosen the winner of the photo contest 2008.

Svetlana Surganova on her concert in the club A2 on May, 24th in St. Petersburg will announce the winner. The prize is double tour to Rome.

The largest mass street event of the LGBT-community took place in St. Petersburg

x_499f88b7On Sunday, May 17, 2009, in St. Petersburg a successful RainbowFlash was held that was devoted to the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). On this day in 1990 the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases. The motto of the event was the following: “We do not pretend any more that we do not exist!”

May 17th - The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Let a balloon fly up to the sky and help rainbow open above the city!

Since 2003 LGBT movements from all over the world carry out International Day Against Homophobia. The idea was suggested by a French writer and scientist Luis-George Tin. The date was chosen not by mere accident: it was on May 17 1990 that homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation.

Film festival “Side-by-Side” continues its shows, which have already become a tradition, and invites you to the next cinema evening.

On May 15th, at 8 p.m., the show of the short films, which are the winners of the Berlin film festival Teddy Award (part I), will take place at press-club “Zelenaya Lampa” (subway station “Chernyshevskaya”, Gagarinskaya street, 3).

Series of single silent rallies

On Sunday, April 26th, a series of single rallies, dedicated to the International Day of Silence which took place on April 25th in Russia, has been conducted in St. Petersburg. The Day of Silence is an international action of nonviolent protest, dedicated to the attracting public attention to the issue of silencing the discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and hate (homophobia) crimes.

Dear friends,

Film festival “Side-by-Side” invites you to the show of the best Teddy Awards short films – LGBT-program of the International Berlin film festival!

The show will take place within the bounds of the “Germany Week” , organized by the Consulate General of Germany in St. Petersburg. After the film show the audience will have the opportunity to participate in discussion on topic “LGBT-film festival Teddy Award and its social meaning for Germany”. Claus Mabel Asheneller, who is the CEO of Teddy Award, and who will come to St. Petersburg especially to see the show, will take part in discussion.

Day of Silence

The International Day of Silence is dedicated to the issue of silencing the discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This annual action of nonviolent protest started in the US in 1996 and in Europe in 2007.

On April 25, 2009, for the second time in Russia, the Day of Silence will take place.
