St. Petersburg LGBT Organization
From the point of view of the law “The Civil marriage” is a neutral territory without rights and duties. The form of relations is very popular recently and has temporary character as a rule. Marriage, the family’s creation, follows further. However there are pairs which have no an opportunity to leave this neutral territory in our country. Unisex marriages aren’t registered.

The “Coming Out” conducted elections of the new director. After the introduction of candidates and a discussion during which the candidates answered the questions of the present coordinators and other volunteers of the organization, the Board of administration chose Igor Kochetkov (Petrov) to be the new “Coming Out” director by open vote.
““Coming Out” is a unique organization for our country; it’s not due only to its “orientation”. Most non-governmental organizations in Russia are created for particular projects or for particular persons. So they disappear right after the end of the project or after the person leaves. “Coming Out” is an organization created to serve the ideas and needs of the socially active part of the LGBT community. “Coming Out” was initially started by a team of very different people who shared the same values…

In 2010 the project ‘ComingOutCionema’ continuous its work and invites movie enthusiasts and everybody who enjoys taking part in film discussions to the “Green Lamp” press club.
Once a month at 6 p.m. at the “Green Lamp” club (Gagarinskaya street, 3; Chernyshevskaya metro station) we’ll show exciting films on different topics: LGBT, feminism, civil society, human rights and others.
Traditionally, a discussion with experts and project guests is going to take place.

In January, 2010 our Organization will mark one year from the moment of the state registration and almost two years since the small initiative group of like-minded people, who were “not indifferent to their present and who were ready to work for change of the future”, has gathered. I remind that the first meeting of this group took place in March, 30th, 2008 during the Week Against Homophobia.
2009. Summary of LGBT-activists work in St. Petersburg.
In 2009 St. Petersburg saw a record number of different events and actions aimed at fighting homophobia and discrimination of LGBT community - lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.
LGBT organisation “Coming Out” with the support of the Russian LGBT
Network ran a series of seminars in Oct-Dec 2009 for journalists,
human rights activists and teachers of St. Petersburg.
The main questions on the agenda were related to gender and sexuality:
* What is gender and what is its difference from biological sex?
* Is homosexuality an illness?
* Who are bigenders and intersexuals?
* What is gender identity?
* Who can become a victim of homophobia?
It is step by step that a human being becomes aware of his or her difference from the others. At first he or she is afraid of being different, but then becomes proud of it. These are the traits of a normal person. The world is moved by phobias towards any demonstration of differences, and step by step the human being does one thing only: he or she destroys phobias. And the more fears of the different a person vanquished, the more of the inexplicable he or she accepted in his or her life, the more civilized this person is.

December 10, Thursday, we open a seminar “Homosexual families in Russia. Marriage of convenience between gays and lesbians. Marriage contract”.
Place: St.Petersburg, Ligovskiy prospect, 87. Office 407.
Time: 19.30.
Entrance is free.
This is the first seminar of “Homosexual Families if Russia” series. The aim is to inform LGBT community members on how to create a family in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation (which does not allow homosexual families), how to protect common property, what are the advantages and disadvantages of fictitious marriages, maternity issues etc.
The St. Petersburg’s LGBT Organization Coming Out unites LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people), and friendly heterosexuals.
The organization emerged in April of 2008 as an outcome of the Week against Homophobia that took place in St. Petersburg, uniting those people who care about their present and who are ready to work to change their future.
