Unfortunately in Russia there hardly are any films that adequately represent the life of gays and lesbians. We decided to fill the gap! LGBT Film Festival “Side by Side” in cooperation with the documentary films director Natalya Zhuravleva begin preparations for the shooting of the documentary “Confession” about the life of gays and lesbians in Russia. We invite gay and lesbian people from different cities and different ages to become heroes of this film, which will be shown in Russian and international festivals. Relatives of the heroes will also take part in the shootings.

In regards to the questions coming to us about the announced for June 26 gay pride in St. Petersburg LGBT Organisation “Coming Out” states:

We are not organisers of this event. We do not have information about the time when and place where it will be held. We believe that everyone has the right to decide themselves whether or not to participate in a certain action.

The liberty of peaceful gatherings is one of the fundamental human rights. As a human right organisation we will monitor the situation and are willing to provide legal counseling help to those whose rights will be violated.

In spite of the homophobia from the society and officials, LGBT families can be wonderful places for upbringing of happy children both biological and adopted.

On Friday, June 25, 2010 at 19.00 within the ComingOutInfo project an open lecture “History of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement in the West”,will be given by Valery Sozaev. This event will mark the Rainbow Flag Day (June 26) and the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (June 27-28). This meeting will be interesting not only for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders, but also for everybody who pursues an interest in social movements of the XX century and in the issue of civil activeness.

On June 1 in the Smolninsky district court of St. Petersburg the hearing on the application of the LGBT Organisation “Coming Out”, whose representatives challenged the authorities decision to prohibit a picket against homophobia. The settlement of grievance was declined by the court, but the human rights activists already stated that they will appeal the decision in the City court.
